Spring 2023 at the Moot Hall Organ heralds three recitals, all beginning with works by J.S. Bach and then going in very different directions:
Up-coming recitalist Charles Francis makes his debut at the Moot Hall with a programme of music by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Edward Elgar, Percy Whitlock, César Franck and Olivier Messiaen.
Ian Ray presents music by J.S. Bach, Samuel Wesley, Joseph Jongen, Alan Ridout and Noel Rawsthorne.
Acclaimed concert organist Richard Brasier returns to the Moot Hall with J.S. Bach, Luigi Cherubini, Enrico Bossi, Louis Vierne and César Franck.
Entry to all organ recitals is free with retiring collection.
Recitals in the Moot Hall are currently postponed for safety reasons until further notice.
Looking further ahead in 2023, all being well, on Sunday 10th September we hope to be able to offer our now traditional opportunity for you to play the Moot Hall Organ! As part of the annual Heritage Open Day Events across the City, Ian Ray, our Honorary Civic Organist, will give a brief informal introduction to this historic organ and then offer an opportunity for anyone, no experience necessary, to play this splendid three-manual instrument. We are always pleased to provide a chance for those with a little more experience too; so do contact us if you are interested.
Some of you may recall that in 2019 we put on a showing of the 1921 silent film ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with live organ accompaniment from Richard Hills on our very own Moot Hall Organ. Richard is an internationally renowned organist, recognised for bridging the divide between the classical organ world and that of the theatre organ. He will be back in November 2023 (status of Moot Hall permitting) – look out for further details!
