The framework of scaffolding which is to be erected inside the Moot Hall to provide safe access so that the organ can be inspected, the pictures removed, and a definitive survey of the area completed is due to be installed this month. It has unfortunately taken some time to design and then to commission. The Council has allocated £1m in its Capital budget for the new Financial Year (2024-5) to cover the repair work. One scrap of good news is that the humidifying equipment for the organ was recently serviced; the engineer presumably was able to go around the edge of the Hall to get to the organ loft. He found that this equipment was working satisfactorily. We trust that there will be further news very soon.
